The GKT Music Society is a non-auditioning four-part choir and orchestra for the Medical, Dental and Biomedical Science students and staff at Guy’s, King’s College and St. Thomas’ hospitals; however we do welcome all KCL students and staff, especially those that live around the Guy's area. We concentrate mainly on classical music and, in the past, have performed works by Mozart, Handel, Vivaldi and Elgar amongst many others, in addition to some more recent and occasionally previously unheard pieces.
We perform at two concerts in the academic year, at both Christmas and Easter. The Christmas concert is held at Southwark Cathedral annually and has become an important event in the GKT calendar. In preparation for these concerts, we meet for weekly rehearsals, led by a professional conductor, throughout the preceding term. Our current conductor, Alexander Chaplin, graduated with Distinction in conducting from the Royal College of Music and joined us in January 2006. Last year we held a small concert for charity in the summer comprising of small ensembles and solos that received a great turnout.
The If you are interested in joining the choir and/or orchestra, please feel free to join us at our Monday evening rehearsals at Guy’s Chapel, opposite Boland House. Our first rehearsal of the new term is on the 29th September, at 6pm for the choir and at 7.30pm for the orchestra, although you’re more than welcome to join later in the term if you’ve missed it! We also have a weekly social after rehearsals and a Society meal at least once a term.
You will also be able to find us outside the fresher's fairs on the 18th and 19th September at Doon Stret car park on the Waterloo Campus to ask any questions; or you can contact us using the online form.
Everyone is welcome into our choir and/or orchestra and there are no auditions!
We often form smaller chamber groups and can offer our services to your function.
There are frequent solo oppurtunities in our repertoires to showcase individual talent
We offer an excellent oppurtunity to businesses in the London Bridge area.
